T.G.I.F.

We survived the first week of school. I found out the principal at monkey's school is the top principal in the district. After seeing her around the school i see why. She is absolutely fabulous! So energetic and friendly, but she has a look. You can tell if you cross her, that's it. I like her! He has a locker, so they got to decorate and he wanted a pic to take of sheldon. So funny! So up there is what he picked.
Yes, John i know. You don't like cats. But they are amazingly self sufficient :) So you can't have him for lunch.
Shame on you..... :)
Midget had a great first week, although long. She likes her new teacher, and her classmates. She misses her old ones, but has a few good ones in there. We are getting her party all planned out. She is so excited, and she will be quite the star at it. I will post the pics soon....
Now i am deciding whether to muster the energy to go to the new movie shorts, or wait until tomorrow. I am leaning to tomorrow... so T.G.I.F.!!!!

First day of school

Today all the kids went back to school. I was so not ready for my little man to go to middle school. Oddly enough, the boys all looked the same but the girls were so much bigger! I guess they are at the age they are growing quicker than the boys. Scary.... He was glad to see a friend in his class, and was excited to go and see what all middle school is about. His teacher seems really neat. The principal was amazingly nice! I don't want to see her though ;)
Midget was all geared up for 1st grade, and has some girls she knows in there. Her teacher is really nice also. She even sent a postcard saying she's glad ot have her in her class. Alot of teachers seem to do that, nice i think. I was glad to see her so excited to go back. Shei s reading so well, so i know she's going to love 1st grade. She was super cool in her monkey look alike vans. He is always wearing is vans, so she found some that are purple with blue and green hearts. She is super cool in them, and drove her brother crazy saying"see they are like yours!". He played it off though. He even gave her a hug and kiss goodbye at school. I love those two :)

Neat idea...

I think this is the neatest idea! Monkey would like this since she doesn't have her own desk yet, and being a big first grader now, she will have some homework. Oddly enough she is very excited about this. We got midget man into the gifted and talented or advanced now, he's in middle school. I am hoping this will help with the whole boredom thing. Surely they won't pound so much on this taks test, if they are in the program they are making all a's and have scored high on placement test. So this would mean, i am assuming, that they all pass the taks test with no problems. Of course one can't assume anything :) He's actually excited to go and see what it's all about. Seeing as last year, he never had homework, and never studied i am hoping to see a book opened. I feel like last year he could have stayed home every day and it not mattered. All of that, and he still got all a's, and one 89. Poor kid, hopefully this will be a little more of a fulfilling year. Middle school, lockers, electives. wow.

Homework Central

Homework Central The challenge: getting kids to settle down to homework in the midst of the evening hubbub.

An ingenious solution: turn display boards (available at office supply stores) into study carrels that can be set up in a flash, with all the necessary supplies close at hand. Easily stowed in a corner or a closet, these customizable stations keep kids focused on learning by providing a fun home base for tackling their assignments. And a single display board makes two carrels, so each sibling can have his own.

MAKE THE ULTIMATE HOMEWORK STATION

Create the station:
You will need:

  • Tri-fold display board (48 by 36 inches; makes two stations)
  • Yardstick and pencil
  • Craft knife
  • Con-Tact paper or paint (optional)

    1. Cut the board in half horizontally. Set one half aside if you plan to make just one carrel. Lay the other half facedown. To make the carrel easy to fold even when stocked with hanging supplies, pencil a vertical line parallel to each existing fold, 2 inches closer to the center. Using the yardstick as a guide, score the lines, cutting through only the top layer of the cardboard.

    2. Fold along the scored lines. Cover the carrel's back with Con-Tact paper or paint, if desired.

    Supplies
    Add the supplies:
Use glue dots to affix clothespins to one side for holding important papers and notes.

Adhere magnets with hot glue to scissors, the back of a stapler, and other frequently used supplies. Line them up along a ruler/magnet strip, with more magnets and a magnetic clip.

Use adhesive-backed Velcro dots to attach supplies that need to be easily removed: the ruler/magnet strip, a clock, a calculator, a sticky-note dispenser, and a pencil box.

Hang a zip-close binder pouch from an adhesive hook to hold small supplies.

Affix a small cork square for displaying photos or notes, using hot glue or the adhesive supplied with the square.

    tae kwan do!!!

We took the man to tae kwan do today. He was a little nervous to start since he hasn't been in a few years. once he got into it, and figured some things out, he had a good time. he kicked that paddle thing hard! this will be good for him to get his aggresions out i think. of course his sister is saying i want to do that...
only problem is we have to learn all the korean again, which he was saying some of it, so i think it will come back. he has to say all the commands, and count in korean in the room, and for the belt test. This on top of monkey having to know her ballet words in french. we are going to be the bilingual family :)

    catching up

So we have been busy getting ready for school, and all the extra activities. We decided that monkey's ballet school really wasn't teaching her a whole lot. It was fine when she was 3, and it was more about seeing if she liked it, and making sure it was fun. Now she is older, and wants to learn the right way. So with much sadness, we left her old ballet school. After her first class today, wow! I was sad and unsure, but her new school is amazing! i think she learned more in her 1 hour than she did in the 4 years. She is in the 8 yr old class, so she is the youngest. She kept up. She was watching and concentrating so hard, and said she had a great time. She loves the new teacher and her classmates. So we were very lucky. Tomorrow midget goes back to his old taw kwan do school. The teacher there is amazing, andn is thrilled he is coming back. He works him hard, and is strict. But he is extremely kind, and has a soft spot for my little man. Will have to take some pics of him. He's even letting him start back with his old belt.

This is what happened to our yard after a freak windstorm and crazy down pour last week. Our fence is leaning a little more, and the tarp cover got blown off the swingset.

So here are some pics of my new toy, the iphone. it is so neat, and so easy to use!!

    Wii Fun

We got the new wii game calleed wii resort, and oh my gosh is it so fun!!! daddy and monkey were at it for hours, She's quite good as you can see. A mom at a party we went to this weekend said she refused to have one of those video game things in her house. She said she refused to let her kids be "vdeo game zombies", and how they "just sit there". What would you say, quite the zombies aren't they? so lethargic....

Love her in your face move at the end, so funny.

    sad times

We are having some sad times in our house. My daddy passed away last week. There are some unsettling circumstances that took place with some "family" members, that let it happen without my brother or i knowing. He got a call after it had happened and I did not even get a call from them. I won't ramble on about those "people", i choose to take the high road, well, the slightly elevated i have made my comments before. They know what they did, and there is a place for them waiting. I do say though, i loved my daddy very much, and my kids loved him also. He had his flaws, but growing up i couldn't have asked for a better dad. We had so many great times, and to melanie, she shared tons of them with us. Remeber gospel bill? We used to sit in the very back of that silly station wagon, and when he would pick us up from the mall and take us home, we would pray to gospel bill. Where he came from i have no idea. we would say "PLEASE, gospel bill, please let my daddy see the light and let him have our fun times in our youth, let him allow us glorious creatures to share our youth". it was so goofy, and we would laugh so hard we would nearly pee in our pants. he would be rolling in the front of the car. Those are good times. All my friends would call him daddy, and he was so cool he would sit with us in the back of the bus on the way to football games. That is who i choose to remember.
So, on to other news, We took the masterchief to the airport. Our visa dillema was not resolved in time for us, so we are stuck here. Although i still say i would love to go back, and we could work it out..... :) Buti will not harp on it. Although renewing our vows on camels in baharain would have been the bomb..hehe. Alas, i will have to spend my 15th wedidng anniversary with ben and jerry, and the kids. Could this week be any worse?

    disney overload

Monkey loved pooh bear when he was smaller, so if you look he is hugging pooh and tigger really tight. He even admitted to me that tigger is his favorite :) Those were full on hugs they got.

This was outside the castle after her Bippity boutique makeover she had. She was full on embracing the whole princess thing. We had rented a stroller for them and she claimed it was her carriage. She was eating up all the attention she was getting, and was really waving at the people, who were reallycalling her princess. It was so funny.

Cinderella told the midget she had lost the slipper too many times, so the fairy godmother sewed a strap onto her shoes to keep them on.
